About us
3IM a network of associations, organisations and individuals with expertise and competences in conflict prevention, mediation and peacebuilding.
3IM is coordinated by a steering committee overseeing the implementation of the activities agreed with its members. Around the steering committee there is a group of committed individuals and institutions that support 3IM work.
Prof. Giovanni Scotto
Giovanni Scotto is Associate Professor of Sociology of Cultural Processes at the University of Florence. He teaches International Conflict Transformation, Theories of Conflict and Mediation, and holds practical workshops on nonviolence, conflict mediation and Active Hope (Joanna Macy).
He has taught in several European and US universities, and cooperated with Italian and international NGOs (Nonviolent Peaceforce, Centro Studi Difesa Civile). In 2017 he was Georg Arnhold Professor in Education for Sustainable Peace.
He is the scientific director of the Forma Mentis Laboratory and one of the promoters of the Piccola Scuola di Pace dell’Isolotto “Gigi Ontanetti” in Florence.
Gabriella Arcadu (PhD)
Gabriella Arcadu is a Political Scientist and humanitarian with over three decades’ experience working in conflict affected areas for UN agencies, EC, universities, NGOs and with national institutions and communities. Since the late 1990’s, she has being exploring the potential of health systems and personnel to act as peacebuilders in conflict affect zones working for the WHO and, more recently, co-founding the Healing Under Fire Initiative that developed conflict resolution and mediation actions in South Thailand.
Her competences and soft skills in managing training and conflict resolution workshops in polarized environments have been tested and refined in challenging circumstances such as Afghanistan, Iraq, various African countries and Kosovo. She has a strong understanding of security transitions and disarmament demobilization and reintegration processes both within and outside a peacekeeping environment.
In 2009 she co-founded 4change a non-profit association that focuses on training, leadership and mediation in crisis areas. She is among 3IM co-founders.
Anna Cervi
Anna Cervi Anna Cervi is a trained mediator registered with the Italian Ministry of Justice and the International Mediation Institute (IMI) and an expert on humanitarian diplomacy, mediation and international sanctions.
Anna has almost 15 years overseas experience with International Organisations, leading humanitarian interventions in Syria, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Darfur in support to peace and reconciliation, with particular focus on humanitarian access, gender, inclusion and transitional justice. An associate of the School of Development, Innovation and Change, since 2022 Anna has been conducting research and advising on humanitarian diplomacy in the Middle East with the Norwegian Refugee Council, Oxfam, PRIO, and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Currently, she is the lead investigator of a research project funded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on policy making in relation to humanitarian exemptions to sanctions.
Anna holds two degrees in Development and Cooperation Studies from the University of Bologna and she is an Alumni of the University of Oxford. She specialised on negotiations at the London School of Economics and attended the Peace Mediation Course sponsored by the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.

Simone Ceresa
Simone Ceresa is an international conflict and victim-offender mediator with over 13 years of experience in diplomacy, conflict management and restorative justice in some of the world’s most difficult areas between Africa, Central America and the Balkans, working for the European External Action Service (EEAS), UN and civil society organizations. Since 2018, he has been directing the Albania and Kosovo programmes for the German organisation CSSP – Berlin Center of Integrative Mediation, for which he oversees External Relations and the creation of new projects.
He is one of the founders of the Italian Initiative on International Mediation (3IM) and serves as victim-offender mediator when in Italy. He graduated in Law at the Università Statale of Milan, with a Master’s degree in International and EU Law and post-graduate studies in mediation and restorative justice (DIKE) and a Diploma in Humanitarian Aid (ISPI). Simone speaks fluently Italian, English, French and Spanish.
